Cub Scout Pack 645 is a Scouting America organization based at Burton Valley Elementary in Lafayette, California. We welcome interested elementary schoolers in kindergarten through fifth grade from BVE and the surrounding area.
Our mission is to develop and grow elementary-aged children, both girls and boys, through a blend of engaging outdoor activities, learning projects, and community involvement.
Pack 645 embraces the traditions and values of Scouting to give families an opportunity to have fun together and provide Scouts a chance to make friends, be helpful, and practice doing their very best. Pack 645’s traditions include camping trips, a pumpkin patch, pinewood derby, and monthly meetings. Our Pack also frequently attends local sporting events.
Cub Scouts is a grade-specific program. Each Pack is divided into “ranks” based on a Scout’s grade level. Within each rank there can be multiple “dens”:
Kindergarten: Lion rank
1st grade: Tiger rank
2nd grade: Wolf rank
3rd grade: Bear rank
4th grade: Webelo rank
5th grade: Arrow of Light rank
Children of all genders are welcome to join Pack 645 at any eligible grade level. Your child doesn’t need to have participated in a previous grade level to join and start having fun!
Many of our Scouts “bridge” to one of the local Scouts BSA Troops in the Spring of their fifth grade year.
Pack 645 wouldn’t exist without the many contributions of our families—both in time and money. Throughout the year, we have many opportunities for parents to contribute to the health and vitality of our Pack. From serving on the executive committee to baking for the pumpkin patch and helping at the Pinewood Derby, we count on all of our families to pitch in to make our Pack successful.
Our annual dues are $250 per Cub Scout plus participation in our Operation 1031: Pumpkin Patch. A majority of this goes to Scouting America and our local Golden Gate Area Council ($159.65). The remainder goes directly to our Pack as a supplemental fee. This initial supplemental fee along with participation in our Operation 1031 Pumpkin Patch are what allow us to provide the programming we do:
One overnight camping trips
Pinewood Derby Kit and participation awards
Pack 645 t-shirt (also known as the “Class B” uniform)
Belt loops, pins & patches for advancement
Facility rentals
And much more
Uniforms are an important part of the Cub Scout experience. Cub Scout uniforms both demonstrate that a Scout is part of a team and show individual achievement, as Scouts wear the badges they’ve earned. Our Cub Scouts feel proud when they’re in uniform and we encourage them to wear their full, Class A uniform to our monthly Pack meetings.
For Den meetings and activities like campouts, Scouts wear their Pack 645 (“Class B”) t-shirt.
Uniforms can be purchased at the Scout Store in Pleasant Hill or online at www.scoutshop.com. We also run a uniform “swap meet” at our first Pack meeting of each school year, where we encourage you to bring your hand-me-down uniform items to share with younger Scouts, and browse for your Cub Scout’s current level.
